Our Luxury Shimla tour is a fabulous introduction to the Himalayan foothills and the perfect extension to a broader exploration of the region. Affectionately known as the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’, Shimla was once the summer playground of the British Raj, and the cosy town exudes colonial charm even today. The famous and much-loved “Toy Train”, which runs on a narrow-gauge railway built in the 1920s, is not to be missed. To connect the dots from Delhi, we suggest a stay at the Oberoi Sukhvilas en-route in Chandigarh. A new addition and the Oberoi’s twelfth hotel in India, this luxurious spa resort is surrounded by over 8000 acres of natural forest, and is the ideal spot to relax, recharge your batteries and indulge in a treatment at the end of an exhilirating journey through India.
Arrive in Delhi (stay at the Oberoi Gurgaon, Delhi)
Our luxury Shimla tour kicks off upon your arrival in Delhi, where you’ll be met by a member of our team at the airport and chauffeured to the Oberoi Gurgaon for an overnight stay. The luxurious Oberoi is one of the capital’s finest hotels, and has striking architectural features; like their huge blue reflection pool. Interiors are cool and crisp, with acres of glass and mirrors, dramatic red flower arrangements and bespoke art pieces. Take it easy for the rest of the day to relax and recuperate from your international journey. Depending on the time you land, if you’d like to explore a bit of Delhi later today your chauffeur is always on hand.
Delhi to Shimla, via Chandigarh (stay at the Oberoi Wildflower Hall, Shimla)
This morning, you’ll be chauffeured to the airport to board your flight to Chandigarh (the closest airport to Shimla). Upon landing in Chandigarh later today, your chauffeur will be waiting to greet you at the arrivals area, holding a sign of your name. From here, you’ll proceed to Shimla, on a scenic drive through the Himalayan foothills. Shimla’s magnificent location, wooded slopes and refreshing climate make it one of north India’s most popular hill stations, and have attracted many visitors since the small village was discovered by Captain Charles Kennedy in the early 19th century.
Upon arriving at the Oberoi Wildflower Hall, our representative will assist you with checking in and – before leaving you to rest for evening – answer any questions you might have about the area. Located at the former residence of Indian Viceroy, Lord Kitchener, this spectacular property sprawls over 22 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, and looks out onto a stunning landscape of rugged mountains, snowy peaks and thick forests. Inside, the rooms are cosy and comfortable, many offering fireplaces. The luxurious indoor pool opens onto a large terrace with outdoor Jacuzzi.
If you can tear yourself away from the Wildflower Hall, this morning you’ll board the much-loved Toy Train for a slow but fascinating journey through the Himalayan foothills. After disembarking at Shoghi, you’ll be chauffeured back up to Shimla to explore colonial highlights with your guide; including the Ridge, Christ Church, the Mall and Viceregal Lodge.
The day is at your leisure in Shimla today, to relax and enjoy your surroundings at the Oberoi Wildflower Hall. If you’re feeling active the Oberoi have a number of activities to embark on; from gentle nature walks to exhilarating water sports.
Shimla to Chandigarh (stay at the Oberoi Sukhvilas, Chandigarh)
Today, when you’re ready, you’ll head back down the Himalayas to Chandigarh. Upon arriving, a member of our team will assist you with checking in to the Oberoi Sukhvilas for an overnight stay. We’d recommend making the most of the spa this afternoon, which occupies a secluded space surrounded by forest. Ayurvedic therapies, massages, steam, sauna, Turkish hammam and Roman baths are all on offer to indulge in during your stay. Or, if you’d like to explore the city, your chauffeur is always on hand and a guide available on request.
Return to Delhi (stay at the Oberoi Gurgaon, Delhi)
After a leisurely start you’ll be chauffeured back to Delhi and return to the Oberoi Gurgaon for a last night. End your time in India with a bang at the Oberoi’s Amaranta restaurant: their speciality is a modern take on traditional Indian sea food dishes, and the menu represents nine coastal regions (from Gujarat to Maharasthra, Goa to Karnataka). As a Preferred Partner of the Oberoi Group, we’re delighted to include a complimentary glass of champagne to enjoy with your meal.
